What is Exxsol D80?
Exxsol D80, a widely used solvent is a product of Exxon Mobil, it is de-aromatized aliphatic hydrocarbon which is transparent in appearance. It has very low levels of aromatic hydrocarbon which is an indicator to show that they do not exhibit any strong characteristic odor to hinder with the combining compounds. The major constituents of Exxsol D80 are isoparaffins,paraffins and cycloparaffins.
Characteristics
Exxsol D80 is combustible i.e given the opportunity to come into contact with an ignition source they genuinely make use of it and burn.This property puts it under the category ‘hazardous’, and so incomplete combustion products, oxides of carbon,smoke and fumes must be kept at bay.
Uses of Exxsol D80

Word of caution
With a flash point of 80OC/176OF, Exxsol D80 is combustible and concentrations above 165ppm in air causes eye and lung irritation which may lead to dizziness. Though the product is known for its low acute and chronic toxicity, accidental swallowing causes lung damage. In occupational settings it is mandatory that necessary protective gears are used to minimize the level of exposure. It is a mandate to obtain the MSDS of the product before handling it.
